Assistance for signing into the Cassiar Address Book Form "Description"

Description of who you were then and what you did in Cassiar to help us remember you.

Do not assume we will remember or not confuse you with someone else.

Please read to see what kind information is desired from you, and what information is useless.

Desired and useful information

  • If you were there as a child tell us what age you were when you arrived or if you were born there.
  • Tell us what school grades you attended in Cassiar.
  • If you didn't work there, but perhaps members of your family did, tell us about your family. Name your parents and siblings, where your parents worked in Cassiar, what jobs they had, name your siblings, etc.
  • Mention the volunteer activities, sports or service groups you were active in.
  • If you are checking in for both yourself and your spouse that also lived in Cassiar please provide some description for your spouse too. Its quite possible that some folks will remember only one of you.
  • If you lived/worked in a non-Cassiar based location, like Clinton Creek or Vancouver Office, say so.

Here are some real-life samples of good descriptions from the book.

1966-1974. I worked as a primary concentrator operator in the mine. I was one of the first lifeguards at the pool. I played hockey and was one of the original members of the "Cassiar Ski Team".

1976-1989.  I attended school (grades 9 - 12) at Cassiar School. Dad was Mill Superintendent. Mom worked in the hospital and at the company office. I came back in 1987 to teach at Snowridge Elementary School. Sister: [name]. Parents: [names]

Useless and undesirable and information - these were rejected

Here are samples of useless descriptions that have been sent. The information does not help anyone remember anything about the person. If you send something like this your listing will NOT be added and you NOT gain access to the book and you will be asked to try again..

Tip:

  • Avoid stating you have happy memories of living in Cassiar as that is not unique and most folks can say that.
  • Do not bother including a message intended for a particular person or that you are looking for someone. This is an Address Book, not a bulletin board.

The Description field above has given some folks some trouble so here is the explanation that hopefully helps you. A character is basically any individual letter and number and includes punctuation and spaces. The following is 38 characters:

Cassiar, my home town, closed in 1992.

As some folks would write only one or two words and that simply does not help us remember who they might be. So there is a 60 character minimum so hopefully more helpful information would be provided. If you don't supply enough information you will get an error message "Please enter at least 60 characters...". Add more information please.

Some folks, given the chance, would write a whole page (or more) and there is not room for that so there is a 500 character maximum limit. If you exceed this value you will get an error message "Please enter at most 500 characters..." That means no more than 500 characters. Reduce the information please.

So working between 50 to 500 characters I think most people should be able to convey enough information to help us remember them by. Letters, numbers and punctuation all counts as characters. The wording of the error messages above is coded into software and I cannot change that. I can only influence the number it triggers on. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
